This is a unique role that requires someone that has experience supervising staff or looking to take the next step in their poultry career.

The Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of; production, quality assurance, Workplace Health and Safety within the Hatchery so as to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of operations.  The incumbent shall ensure that production and customer needs are met on a timely basis.  This role is to ensure tasks are carried out daily with the resources provided by the Hatchery Manager.

As this role is critical, the appointed supervisor will be required to participate on the on-call roster to respond to hatchery alarms in a timely manner and will be required to live near the hatchery in Beerwah.  Woodlands may be able to assist with accommodation.

What does a typical day look like?

  • Your day will start at 4am at our Beerwah Hatchery
  • Supervise the day-to-day operational requirements of the hatchery to ensure an efficient and effective operation.
  • Perform monitoring and recording of the hatchery processes.
  • Supervise the chicken take off and counting, designating chicken numbers to be placed per shed for deliveries.
  • Supervise the cold room tasks/functions e.g. traying up, grading and preparation of sales orders.
  • Prepare vaccine for processes (on an as required basis).
  • Assist hatchery manager in staff supervision.
  • Perform out of hours Hatchery duties including monitoring of alarms on a rotational 24hour call basis.
  • Identify / monitor maintenance requirements of the hatchery and notify the hatchery manager.
  • Monitor consumable stock levels and advise manager when low.
  • Issue and control Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the Hatchery Staff.
  • Assist with the implementation, development and on-going improvement of the Quality Assurance and Workplace Health and Safety systems.

Mechanical Fitter/Mill Maintenance Technician

Woodlands is seeking a qualified Mechanical Fitter to maintain and repair the production equipment in our Feed Mill based onsite in Beerwah, Sunshine Coast. The successful applicant would be exposed to a wide variety of tasks in our Mill.

Tasks include but not limited to-

  • Conduct breakdown repairs, preventative and scheduled maintenance duties
  • Fault Finding and troubleshooting throughout the Mill
  • Participating in improvement projects that aim to reduce unplanned stoppages
  • General Machining duties
  • In consultation with Mill Production Management and Staff, identify equipment and areas requiring attention aiming for efficient running of mill.

Skills and experience

Candidates should have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Trade Qualification as a Mechanical Fitter
  • Experience in Mill maintenance (highly desirable)
  • Forklift ticket required
  • Working at heights ticket advantageous
  • Confined space ticket required
  • Attention to detail with a high level of problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic
  • Reliable transport and drivers licence
  • Time management skills
  • Available for immediate start (highly desirable)
  • Local to the area (highly desirable)

Hatchery Delivery Driver/Labourer

We have a position available in our Hatchery which involves driving a manual ute and general hatchery labouring work.  You are required to assist in daily hatchery operations and work within a close knit team environment.  We can offer long term, stable employment for our team members.

Qualifications and Experience

  • No previous experience required
  • Working in our Hatchery involves:
    • Cleaning (using pressure washer) and sanitising equipment
    • Driving and Hatchery work including driving a manual ute (ESSENTIAL) and/or HR truck transporting livestock to farms
    • General Hatchery daily labouring operations work (sorting and moving livestock, cleaning and sanitising equipment and the hatchery)
  • Manual drivers licence (for driving work)
  • HR truck licence desirable (for driving work)

  • 4am start in Hatchery
  • Degree of physical fitness
  • Ability to work in a dusty and noisy environment

Woodlands is seeking qualified Electricians to undertake the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of electrical fixtures in sheds, buildings and other facilities. The successful applicants would be exposed to a wide variety of tasks.

Maintenance Field Technician

Woodlands is seeking a Maintenance Field Technician (preferably trade qualified) who will provide effective maintenance and repair of poultry sheds and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • To carry out maintenance to poultry sheds and equipment, including replace and rebuild components including fans, press bearings, winches, pulleys and cool pads
  • Respond and attend to breakdowns and shed maintenance
  • Perform preventative maintenance in a timely, cost-effective manner with proficient problem solving skills
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and repair breakdowns of auger motors, feedline motors, silo repairs and feed hoppers in a timely manner
  • Actively participate and assist in equipment upgrades and installations
  • Promote a safety culture and comply with company policies
  • Participate in Toolbox Talks and assist in resolving operational issues
  • Work effectively in team environment with a positive attitude

Skills and experience

Candidates should have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Trades certificate (Fitter, Boilermaker, Mechanical Fitter) is desirable
  • Strong mechanical background or mechanically minded individual
  • Welding experience is essential (MIG welding)
  • Working at Heights is desirable
  • EWP is desirable
  • Confined Space is desirable
  • Excellent manual handling skills – some heavy lifting required
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment
  • Core hours are 6am – 3pm (with on call after hours and weekend on a roster basis only)

Responsibilities

The specific responsibilities and duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Repair and maintain required machinery to a consistently high standard.
  2. Respond to general housekeeping requirements and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  3. Receive and action specialised maintenance jobs from the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor.
  4. Respond quickly to machinery breakdowns, with the aim of minimising downtime.
  5. Record and report the consumption spare parts.
  6. Understand and ensure work complies with controlled documents, and complete and maintain quality records when required by procedural documentation.

Plumber

Based at Beerwah, we require a qualified plumber to assist in the maintaining the water equipment at Woodlands. The successful applicant should have experience in a wide range of water and heating equipment.
